How to share a time capsule with friends

By Austin Frankel · July 2026 · Guide

Most people want a shared ritual without a shared cloud album. Time Capsule keeps memories on your device by default, then lets you export an encrypted .ltc file when you are ready to hand someone a sealed capsule.

How sharing works

  1. Build the capsule with photos, notes, and voice memos.
  2. Seal it with an unlock date.
  3. Export the encrypted .ltc file.
  4. Send it via AirDrop, Messages, email, or any file share.
  5. Your friend imports it into Time Capsule on their iPhone.

Capsule sharing and some advanced features may require Time Capsule Pro. Check the App Store listing for the current unlock rules.
